Wigan lost their first Premiership game of the season to West Ham 1-2. Dean Ashton scored a brace for the Hammers, while Egypt striker Amr Zaki pulled one back for the visitors. The highly rated Zaki proved that manager Steve Bruce's faith in him was justified.

 

 

However Zaki also missed three golden chances, which may have swung the game Wigan's way or could at least have earned then a draw. Wigan boss Steve Bruce has signed England Under-21 midfielder Lee Cattermole, Olivier Kapo and Daniel de Ridder besides Zaki.

Chelsea began on a rousing note trouncing Portsmouth in majestic fashion at Stamford Bridge. The 4-0 margin could have been as good as 6-0 had Chelsea converted some decent chances that fell their way.

 

 

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari would have been delighted with the start and would be especially delighted with the way Deco seemed to control the midfield. The former Barcelona playmaker fought for the ball and carved some delightful passes.

Goals for Chelsea were scored by Joe Cole, Nicolas Anelka, Frank Lampard and Deco.

Chelsea's move for Robinho appears to have fallen through and the Blues now appear to be targeting Kaka. Last season this fixture was clinched 0-2 by Chelsea.
