The Hammers have not managed to collect all three points from a game since beating Wolves on the opening day of the season and are without a victory in nine games. The poor run of form has seen the club slip to 19th in the league table with just seven points from their first 10 matches.

West Ham were unlucky to return from Sunderland with just a solitary point after goals from Guillermo Franco and Carlton Cole had given them a 2-0 lead. Though Andy Reid managed to reduce the deficit before the half time whistle, Kenwyne Jones' sending off meant that Hammers were favorites to collect all three points only for Kieran Richardson to equalize 14 minutes from the final whistle.

Aston Villa are going through a rough patch of their own with the club managing to register just one win in their last five games. While Villa are still in contention to finish inside the top six for a second successive season, manager Martin O'Neill will be aware that his side will have to improve on their performances quickly if they are to safeguard their good start to the season.

Villa came away with a hard fought point against Everton last weekend with John Carew canceling out Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's strike just a minute into the second half. Villa will be without James Milner and Stiliyan Petrov with the duo out of action due to injuries while Carlos Cuellar will miss the game after being sent off against Everton.
