West Ham have a record number of injuries in the league at the moment with 11 players out for a variety of reasons. Luis Boa Morte and John Collis are struggling with groin injuries, while Anton Ferdinand is out with a hamstring strain. However Freddie Ljungberg could return for the Boxing Day clash after complaining of migraines. Last December West Ham lost 1-2 to Portsmouth thanks to a brace from Linvoy Primus. Meanwhile Reading manager Steve Coppell is struggling to come to terms with the hectic schedule of the Premiership. Last season, the Royals enjoyed a great run, but have been hampered by a string of mixed results this time around.

In their last match prior to the Christmas fixtures, Reading were lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw against Birmingham thanks to a late equalizer by Hunt. Reading are due to play Spurs in their next match so they will want to get decent points from games against Sunderland and West Ham. Iceland international Brynjar Gunnarsson is the only injury concern for the Royals heading into this clash.

Last Boxing Day, Reading held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw thanks to an own goal by Michael Essien and a goal from Leroy Lita, which nullified a brace from Didier Drogba.
