West Brom were beaten 1-0 on the opening day of the Premiership by Arsenal thanks to a goal from Samir Nasri. Albion manager Tony Mowbray has demanded better performance from his side although they played decently at the Emirates Stadium last week.

 

 

Mowbray has so far signed Scott Carson, Gianni Zuiverloon, Marek Cech and Ivory Coast centre-half Abdoulaye Meite. He has indicated his desire to sign another striker before the transfer window closes this month.

Everton meanwhile went down 2-3 to Blackburn at home last week. David Moyes' side looked ragged even though they took the lead in the second half. That was after David Dunn had put the visitors ahead and Mikel Arteta's free-kick had pulled it back for Everton.

The Toffees took the lead through Yakubu, but Roque Santa Cruz equalized for Blackburn and Andre Ooijer's injury-time strike ensured all three points for Blackburn.

 

 

Everton boss David Moyes has been left frustrated at the transfer market, but is still hoping to complete a couple of signings including Brazilian striker Vagner Love, Newcastle's Alan Smith and Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia.

The departure of Andrew Johnson to Fulham has left Everton without firepower upfront.
