Roberto Di Matteo’s West Bromwich Albion host League One side Rotherham United in the Carling Cup this Wednesday evening to decide which team progresses to the third round of the competition. The Baggies heaped more pressure on Roy Keane as they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 in their weekend Championship game. Youssouf Mulumbu scored the opener for WBA, and Robert Koren made it 2-0 shortly before half time. West Brom could have made it 3-0, but Luke Moore’s penalty was saved by Ipswich keeper Richard Wright.

West Brom beat Bury 2-0 in the previous round of the competition. Graham Dorrans and Mike Jones were the scorers for the Baggies, who never came under any real pressure from Bury. Roman Bednar has completed his three month FA ban, and could make his comeback against Rotherham.

Rotherham beat Grimsby Town 2-1 last week to pick up their second league win of the season. Summer signing Adam Le Fondre put the Millers ahead from the spot on 53 minutes after Robbie Stockdale had handled the ball in the Grimsby box. The Mariners hit back through Peter Sweeney, but Rotherham got the winner three minutes later through Micky Cummins, who headed in a Nicky Law free kick.

Rotherham reached the fourth round of the competition last season, beating the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves before losing to Stoke City. This season, they beat Derby County 2-1 in the first round. Paul Warne and Kevin Ellison scored for Mark Robins’ side in the one of the biggest upsets of the first round.
