After knocking favourites AC Milan out of the UEFA Cup, Werder Bremen’s European campaign sees them host St. Etienne at the Weserstadion in a Round of 16 clash on Thursday evening. The result was a bit of a surprise as Olympiakos had been expected to go through, but a neutral would definitely not hold a grudge against St.Etienne as they played some fantastic football and totally deserved their victory.
Like Werder, St Etienne’s domestic form has been disappointing. Alain Perrin’s men are stuck in a relegation dogfight along with Valenciennes, Caen and Le Havre. Their away form has been woeful- they have won just once in thirteen games.
Both Werder and St. Etienne will feel that they can go further in this competition.
