Bayern Munich will look to arrest their league slide when they travel to the Weserstadion to take on Werder Bremen this weekend. Bayern put one foot into the last eight of the Champions League on Wednesday night when they thrashed Sporting Lisbon 5-0 in Portugal. Franck Ribery and Luca Toni scored a brace each with Miroslav Klose chipping in with one as Bayern ran riot in Portugal.

Bayern need to get back to winning ways in the league, and a repeat of the performance against Sporting would certainly do their campaign no harm at all. Bayern surprisingly lost to mid table Cologne last week. Goals from Fabrice Ehret and Daniel Brosinki gave Cologne a 2-0 lead before Miroslav Klose pulled one back for Bayern late in the game.

 

 

Tipped as Champions League contenders at the beginning of the season, Werder are currently stuck in mid table obscurity. Last week they were beaten 2-1 by Energie Cottbus, adding to trainer Thomas Schaaf’s woes.

Midfielder Torsten Frings has even expressed fears about relegation, something previously unthinkable for the Green and Whites. Bremen are currently fifteen points behind leaders Hamburg.

Bremen hammered Bayern 5-2 at the Allianz Arena back in September. The likes of Mesut Ozil, Markus Rosenberg and Claudio Pizarro were on the score sheet for Bremen then.
