German club Werder Bremen meet Italian giants AC Milan at the Weserstadion on Wednesday in a round of 32 UEFA Cup tie that has had fans licking their lips in anticipation ever since the draw was made. Bremen were expected to progress from Group B in the Champions League, but some great football from Panathinaikos and Anorthosis saw them finish third in the group. Bremen are also struggling domestically- they are currently thirteen points behind leaders Hertha Berlin.

Bremen’s last game was a 1-1 draw against bottom placed Borussia Monchengladbach. Claudio Pizarro gave Bremen the lead in the 76^th minute, but Gladbach equalised three minutes later through Michael Bradley. Coach Thomas Schaaf, who has come under fire for Bremen’s recent form, will be urging his boys to give it their all against Milan.

 

 

AC Milan’s campaign, unlike Bremen has been going well. David Beckham has been a real hit at the San Siro, and we could see him in action against Werder as Carlo Ancelotti has included the loan signing in his team roster. Milan finished second in Group E behind Wolfsburg, with two wins and two draws. Ancelotti is expected to field a full strength team, with the likes of Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, Mathieu Flamini and Andrea Pirlo all expected to play. Kaka is expected to miss the game through injury. Midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been ruled out with a knee injury.
