Atletico are currently fifth on the table with 58 points from 35 games; just one point below Valencia. The fight for the final Champions League spot next season has ebbed and flowed between these two sides; so fans can expect a thrilling yet tightly-fought encounter this weekend.

Atletico beat Espanyol 3-2 last week despite being reduced to 10 men after Luis Amaranto Perea was sent off for violent conduct. The hosts were also down 2-0 by the end of the first half, thanks to goals from Anderson Nene and Daniel Jarque. However Atletico came back strongly in the second half and a brace from Diego Forlan and another goal from Sergio Aguero gave them a fantastic win and roused hopes of Champions League football next season.

Maniche and Giorgios Seitaridis remain long-term absentees due to disciplinary issues, but Antonio Lopez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle should play after recovering from minor knocks last week.

However Atletico will find the going tough against Valencia who are in top form and high on confidence after trouncing Real Madrid 3-0 last week. Goals from Juan Mata, David Villa and Ruben Baraja gave Valencia all three points and lifted them to the fourth spot with 59 points from 35 games.

With David Villa in great goal-scoring form, Valencia will hope to put one over Atletico and clinch Champions League qualification.
