Abel Resino's side secured a vital win over Valencia last weekend to leap frog to fourth in the league table. Needing to beat Valencia in order to maintain their dreams of Champions League football next season, Atletico rode high on Diego Forlan's goal from the penalty spot in the 29th minute to secure a fourth league win in a row.

Resino will be happy with his side's recent performances and will be confident that Atletico will finish fourth for a second consecutive season. A win for Atletico on Saturday will be enough if Valencia fails to beat Villarreal this weekend.

Athletic Bilbao meanwhile will be hoping to spring an upset on Saturday as they look to finish inside the top half of the league table for the first time in four years. Bilbao are just two points behind ninth placed Mallorca but could slip down to as low as 15th in the league table.

Having already secured a place in the newly formed Europa League for the next season, coach Joaquin Caparros will be hoping to finish the season on a high as he looks to build on his side's excellent cup run that took them to the Copa del Rey final for the first time in nearly 25 years.

Bilbao have already beaten Atletico once this season with the Los Leones securing a narrow 3-2 win. Antonio Lopez had put Atletico ahead in the 16th minute but Koikili Del Campo equalized on the stroke of half time before Fernando Llorente put them in the lead five minutes into the second half. Llorente added a third 16 minutes later and though Diego Forlan managed to grab one back late in injury time, Athletic hung on to claim all three points from the tie.
