Russia will be confident of clinching the play-offs spot for the World Cup finals next year when they take on Wales in their next World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday. Guus Hiddink's side are currently five points clear of third placed Finland and are still in contention to finish top of their group ahead of Germany who are just one point above Russia. Russia go into the match on the back of a clinical performance against Liechtenstein on Saturday. Meanwhile Wales have nothing left to play for other than pride after managing to collect just nine points from their first seven games. Coach John Toshack has picked a young side to face Russia with U 21 stars Shaun MacDonald, Andy King and Christian Ribeiro earning their first senior call-ups to partner Aaron Ramsey, Sam Vokes and Ched Evans.

Jason Koumas, Chris Gunter and Lewin Nyatanga are a serious doubt for the clash with the trio struggling with injuries while Simon Church is expected to recover in time for the game. Jack Collison will not be featuring in the game with the West Ham midfielder attending his father's funeral on Monday.
