Wales' hopes of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup next year were dealt a massive blow when they lost 0-2 to Finland last Saturday. Goals from Jonatan Johansson and substitute Shefki Kuqi shattered the home fans and left manager John Toshack contemplating an early exit from the qualifying campaign.

Sami Hyypia and Jari Litmanen dominated the game for the Finns and never let Wales get into the game. This is a worry for Toshack, who has multiple injury concerns going into the Germany game. Craig Bellamy is a doubtful starter, while David Vaughn is out with a hamstring injury. Sam Ricketts returns to the squad after missing the Finland game due to suspension.

 

 

Meanwhile Germany continued their smooth march towards qualification with a 4-0 win over Liechtenstein on Saturday. Goals from Michael Ballack, Marcell Jansen, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Lukas Podolski gave Germany all three points and sent them to the top of Group Four with 12 points from 5 games.

Germany coach Joachim Loew will give a late fitness test to Rene Adler to determine his availability ahead of this game. Piotr Trochowski is expected to be fit for this game as is Stefan Kiessling, who is yet to recover from an injury.

 

 

Loew is already without Torsten Frings, Miroslav Klose and Arne Friedrich as the trio pulled out due to injuries.
