Vitoria Guimaraes finished a poor eighth in the Portuguese Liga last season. It was a major disappointment for their fans, who had seen Guimaraes finish third the season before. They finished a whopping 32 points behind leaders FC Porto.

Vitoria have snapped up Kamani Hill and Alex, both of whom used to ply their trade for Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga last season. Other notable signings include Carlos Milhazes from FC Timisoara and David Mendieta from 12 de Octubre. They have also signed Jorge Goncalves on loan from Racing Santander.

Pompey hit Eastleigh for a six in their first pre-season friendly. Younes Kaboul and Paris Cowan-Hall put them 2-0 up in the first ten minutes of the game. Swiss forward Danijel Subotic made it 3-0 on 26 minutes. Eastleigh did manage to pull one back, but David Nugent struck a hat trick late in the game as Pompey ran out 6-1 winners.

This will be a season of rebuilding for Pompey and their new manager Paul Hart. Sulaiman Al-Fahim is now the owner of the club, and that will bring in some financial security. Rightback Glen Johnson has left for Liverpool, while former Reds defender Steve Finnan has arrived on a free transfer from Espanyol. Peter Crouch has left to join his old club Tottenham Hotspur.
