It was a bad outing for Valencia during the midweek after they went down by a 3-1 margin at Getafe despite taking a 22nd minute lead through David Villa. A brace from Manu del Moral and a stunning free-kick from Pedro Leon gave Getafe all three points and consigned Valencia to their first defeat of the season.

Valencia coach Unai Emery has seemingly forgotten and forgiven Villa for his comments that appeared to question his tactics following the side's 2-2 draw with 10-man Sporting Gijon. Emery says the matter is now closed and Villa has apologized for his comments. Ruben Baraja, Angel Dealbert, Manuel Fernandes, Asier Del Horno, Nacho Gonzalez, Vicente and Jordi Alba continue to miss out for the side.

Meanwhile Atletico Madrid's miserable start to the season showed no sign of improving after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Almeria during the midweek. Cleber Santana and Diego Forlan scored for the hosts, while the visitors hit back with a brace from Pablo Piatti. This was after Forlan missed a first half penalty.
