Los Che, trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Brugge, scored in the first minute of the return leg to draw the tie on aggregate. Pablo Hernandez then scored a brace in extra time to allow Valencia to progress at the expense of the Belgians. Winger David Silva missed the second leg through suspension, but should be available to take his place against Bremen.

Like Valencia, Werder Bremen lost the opening leg of their Round of 32 tie to FC Twente. However they bulldozed Steve McClaren’s side 4-1 at the Weserstadion in the second leg, with Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro scoring a hat trick. Bremen were involved in an exciting draw with Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Thomas Schaaf’s men needed late strikes from Hugo Almeida and Torsten Frings to rescue a point from the game after Stuttgart had taken a 2-0 lead at half time.
