The Xotos have bounced back from a disappointing start to the new season by winning five of their last six matches and are unbeaten since their 3-1 defeat to Getafe back in September. The excellent run of form has seen the club climb to third in the league table and a victory this weekend will see them pull level on points with Madrid.

Valencia were lucky to come away with all three points from Athletic Bilbao last weekend after a hard fought encounter between the two sides. Bilbao had taken a second half lead through Iker Muniain but goals from David Villa and Jeremy Mathieu saw Valencia take a 2-1 lead. However Bilbao could have had snatched a point late in the game when they were awarded a penalty only for David Lopez to shoot his chance wide of the target.

Valencia will be hoping to repeat last season’s performance against Madrid when they had secured a comfortable 3-0 win over their much illustrious opponents. However it is Madrid who start as clear favorites to collect all three points this season in spite of a brief dip in form that has seen them surrender their top spot to Barcelona.

Madrid go into the match on the back of a comfortable 3-1 win over Marseille in the Champions League and could be boosted by the return of Kaka who has been out of action for the last couple of weeks with a groin injury.
