The Germans delighted purists with their high tempo attacking game so far in the competition but failed to retain possession against Spain in the semi final with Vicente del Bosque’s side deliberately slowing down the game before a Carlos Puyol header sent them to the final.

Coach Joachim Low admitted that his players were a bit nervous before the game and the better side won the game, adding that Spain are now clear favorites to emulate their Euro 2008 performance by lifting the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Meanwhile Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez will be optimistic that his side can end a successful World Cup campaign by finishing in their best position since winning the trophy back in 1950. Uruguay were the only South American side to make it to the semi finals but were unable to contain the creativity of the Dutch attacking line-up, losing out 3-2 in the end.
