Ukraine will be confident of progressing to the World Cup finals in South Africa next year when they welcome Greece to the Olimpic Stadium in Donetsk for the second leg of their qualification playoff this Wednesday. Ukraine did wonderfully well to hold Greece to a 0-0 draw at Athens last Saturday. The draw means both teams do have an equal chance of going through, but Ukraine hold the edge as they play the second leg at home. In a game that was devoid of any thrills, Theofanis Gekas had Greece's best chance of scoring, but was unable to find the right direction.

Ruslan Rotan was also handed a great chance, but his finishing skills left much to be desired. In the dying seconds of the game, Sotiris Kyrgiakos had another chance to seal the game for the home side, but headed wide to settle for a stalemate.

Greece coach Otto Rehhagel has urged the 2004 European Champions to play the best game of their lives if they do not want to miss out on a second successive world cup. Greece missed out in 2006 and the German coach is keen to avoid a similar fate this time around as well.

Meanwhile Ukraine boss Alexei Mikhailichenko will have been reasonably satisfied with his team's showing in the first leg and will be confident of nicking the second leg at home.

Ukraine have not selected Andriy Voronin for this round of playoffs and based on their showing in Athens, it appears to be a sound decision.
