Werder Bremen could knock out Italy’s last surviving team in European competition this Thursday when they face Udinese at Stadio Friuli. Udinese’s hopes at the Weserstadion seemed dead and buried when Bremen lead 3-0, but Fabio Quaglirella’s late goal gave the Friulian side some hope ahead of the second leg. Pasquale Marino’s side failed to take advantages of the chances that came their way, while Werder were ruthless in front of goal.

A late brace from Antonio Floro Flores saw Udinese beat nine man Reggina 2-0 in the Serie A on Sunday. Defender Maurizio Domizzi also missed a penalty for Udinese early in the second half, but it did not prove costly for the Bianconeri in the end. Reggina self destructed - they not only had two men sent off, but also failed to convert from the spot minutes before Flores scored his first goal.

 

 

Werder Bremen trainer Thomas Schaaf was angry when his side allowed Udinese an away goal in the first leg, but the Germans still remain favourites to advance to the last four. Playmaker Diego scored two for Bremen, with Hugo Almeida netting their third.

Bremen drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen in their weekend Bundesliga game. Claudio Pizarro’s 33^rd minute striker cancelled out Tranquillo Barnetta’s opener for Leverkusen.
