Struggling Tottenham Hotspur travel to Italy to face Pasquale Marino’s in form Udinese on Thursday in a UEFA Cup Group D fixture. The Zebrette have been the surprise package of the Serie A so far, and are currently ahead of both Milan and Lazio in the league table.

 

 

Udinese needed penalties to knock Borussia Dortmund out in the previous round, with the German side managing to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg thanks to Tamas Hajnal’s brace. However Udinese kept their cool in the shootout, winning 4-3 to spark wild celebrations at the Stadio Fruli. On Sunday, Udinese showed great character to come back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lecce. The scorers for the Bianconeri were Alexis Sanchez and Gaetano D’Agostino. Fernando Tissone has missed the last three games due to injury, and Brazilian Felipe is still down with the flu. Udinese have not lost at home in the league this season, a fact which would have not escaped the attention of underfire Spurs boss Juande Ramos.

Everything seems to be going wrong for Tottenham Hotspur. Billed as the team to break the hegemony of the top four, this has been their worst ever start to a season, and Sunday’s loss to promoted Stoke City just took it to a new level. Gareth Bale got the marching orders from the referee, and Vedran Corluka had to be stretchered off, although the latter misses this clash as he is cup tied. Injury prone skipper Ledley King did not make an appearance at the Brittania stadium, but may be called upon for this crucial game. Spurs do seem to do better when he is on the pitch, and statistics prove that. Spurs beat Polish champions Wisla 3-2 in the previous round.
