The German team have faced much criticism for scheduling a post-season Asia tour even though general manager Oliver Bierhoff insisted it was the right thing to do. Germany played a 1-1 draw against China in Shanghai over the weekend with Lukas Podolski's goal being nullified by Junmin Hao.

Coach Joachim Low was at pains to defend his team's dismal showing blaming heat and tiredness for their poor performance over the weekend. Low has not had a full squad for this tour because players from two clubs -Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen- are involved in a domestic cup final, while Michael Ballack was also unavailable as he appeared in the FA Cup final for Chelsea.

There are injury concerns over defender Heiko Westermann, who injured his heel in training, but he is expected to be fit for this game. Christian Trasch, Christian Gentner and Cacau have been called up for the first time. Bierhoff says the tour is a great way for youngsters to stake a claim for a regular spot in the team.

Meanwhile this is a big game for UAE at home simply because of the fan following in Asia that football commands. The game is also a nice way for the players to assuage fans who saw their team lose a close game by a 3-2 margin against Saudi Arabia in April.

The UAE have no hope of making it to South Africa as they are bottom on Group 2 in the Asian qualifying group.
