Liverpool's pre season results have not been very encouraging. They could only manage a goalless draw against Swiss side St.Gallen in their opening friendly, and were beaten by Austria Vienna in their next friendly. In front of a capacity crowd at the Ernst Happel Stadium, Vienna captain Steffen Hoffmann scored the winner with a second half free kick after Dirk Kuyt had brought Markus Heikkenen down.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has not travelled with the squad to Asia. Xabi Alonso and the rest of the Spanish contingent could feature after watching the Austria Vienna game from the sidelines. Rafa Benitez opted for a mixture of youth and experience against Vienna, but would have felt frustrated watching his side's lacklustre performance.

Thailand are coached by former Everton legend Peter Reid. Reid managed Man City, Sunderland, Leeds and Coventry City before moving to the Far East to coach the Thai national team in September 2008. Reid has said that his boys will not be intimidated by the might of Liverpool, and will give it their all on Wednesday.

Thailand warmed up for the friendly by beating Pakistan 4-0 in their last game. Teerasil Dangda gave Thailand the lead in the seventh minute, and Rangsan Vivatchaichoke doubled it from the spot a minute later. Teerasil added a third in the 16^th minute, and his replacement, Teerathep Winothai made the result a mere formality with a fourth goal seconds after half time.
