Atletico looked to have got their season back on track with back to back wins over Espanyol and Xerez but suffered a disappointing defeat to Villarreal last weekend. Los Colchoneros looked on course for a third straight win after Simao broke the deadlock in the first half. However Villarreal fought back in the second half to equalize through David Fuster before Joseba Llorente scored an injury time winner to snatch all three points for the visitors.

The defeat sees Atletico slip down to 14th in the league table and coach Quique Sanchez Flores will be hopeful that his side will bounce back in a positive fashion by collecting all three points against a Tenerife side that is struggling for form.

The newly promoted side has managed just one win in its last six matches and though his side sits in a comfortable 12th place in the league table, coach Jose Luis Oltra will be aware that they will have to turn their form around very quickly if they are to avoid a relegation scrap in the second half of the season.

Tenerife suffered its eighth defeat of the season after a Juan Albin helped Getafe register a comfortable 2-1 win last weekend.
