They beat Kazakh side Irtysh Pavlodar in the first qualifying round, but were beaten by Swedish side Elfsborg in the next round. Szombathelyi lost the two legged tie 3-0 on aggregate. Haladas also hosted Arsenal in a pre-season friendly last season. Teenage star Carlos Vela made his Arsenal debut as the Gunners drew 1-1 in Hungary.
