Italy will clash against Switzerland for an international friendly in Basel on Wednesday in a game that provides coach Marcello Lippi yet another chance to get his combination right ahead of next year's world cup in South Africa. Lippi has called up Domenico Criscito and Claudio Marchisio for this game even as he attempt to sift through Italy's aging stars to determine who makes the cut for South Africa. The big news though is that Lippi seems to have turned a deaf ear to calls to include Antonio Cassano in his squad.

Salvatore Bocchetti. Davide Santon and Giuseppe Rossi have all been promoted from Under-21 squad to the senior squad that admittedly has a more youthful look about it. Gaetano D'Agostino and Federico Marchetti have also been given a chance to make their international debuts as Lippi seeks to deflect criticism over his side's poor showing in the recently concluded Confederations Cup.

Daniele De Rossi, Gennaro Gattuso and Luca Toni have been rested for this game. Italy are leading their group in the world cup qualifying campaign and will seek to book their place in South Africa when they take on Georgia and Bulgaria next month.

Meanwhile Switzerland who are currently behind Greece in Group 2 of the world cup qualifying campaign will hope to use this game as a test for players. Alexander Frei, who recently moved back to Basel from Borrusia Dortmund, will once again be the player to watch out for.
