Switzerland would have been hoping to come away with at least a draw from their game against the Czech Republic. However that was not to be as the Czech emerged 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from substitute Vaclav Sverkos.

The Swiss had begun the game in a promising manner with Tranquillo Barnetta, Valon Behrami and Alexander Frei all testing out the Czech defense. However late in the first half, skipper Frei sustained a knee injury effective dousing any victory hopes that the home fans might have entertained.

However substitute Hakan Yakin did give the fans something to cheer about, but Switzerland were ultimately defeated as they were unable to find the back of the net.

Meanwhile Turkey went down 2-0 to Portgual to make their task of qualifying for the next stage a hard climb. Goals from Pepe and substitute Raul Meireles were enough to sink the Turkish fans and leave coach Fatih Terim with a massive task on his hand.

Nihat Kahveci worked tirelessly and even created a couple of fine chances, but he was unable to score the all crucial goal that might have pushed the Portuguese.

Both Turkey and Switzerland need to win this game and the side that loses faces an early exit out of Euro 2008.
