After a 2-0 loss to Benfica in their opening game of the tournament, Sunderland's Amsterdam Tournament campaign draws to an end on Sunday when they take on Atletico Madrid. Steve Bruce's men lost 2-0 to Benfica in the inaugural game of the tournament. The Portuguese side tok the lead when Javier Saviola appeared to go down under a challenge from Black Cats skipper Danny Collins. Oscar Cardozo duly did the rest after the referee pointed to the spot.

Maxi Pereira scored Benfica's second ten minutes after the break to give Jorge Jesus' men a well deserved 2-0 win. Because Sunderland did not manage to score even once, they sit at the bottom of the table with no points to their name. Atletico and Ajax have four each, while Benfica are the leaders with five.

 

 

Atletico Madrid squandered a brilliant opportunity to go to the top of the table as a late equaliser allowed Ajax to draw 3-3 at the Amsterdam Arena. Had the scoreline, stayed at 3-2, Atletico would have collected six points from the game, and would have been a point ahead of Benfica, who beat Sunderland 2-0 in the other game of the day.

Atletico lead 2-1 at half time through strikes from Simao and Sergio Aguero, but their fragile defence proved to be their undoing. Dennis Rommedahl grabbed an equaliser for Ajax, and although Atletico did go ahead through Maxi Rodriguez's goal, Luis Suarez's late penalty allowed Ajax to escape with a share of the spoils.
