Sunderland’s winless streak continued on Monday with a disappointing performance against Stoke City as both the teams struggled to create any real chances throughout the game. Wigan Athletic also had a busy Monday with Marcelo Moreno bought on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk while Victor Moses completed a permanent move for an undisclosed fee.

The Latics suffered their third defeat in four games when Tim Cahill’s goal six minutes from the final whistle handed all three points to Everton last weekend. Wigan are just two points above the drop zone and Martinez will be looking to put some distance by completing a double over Sunderland, having already beaten the Black Cats early in the season.
