Sunderland will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat last weekend but face a tough match against Liverpool. A good start to the campaign has seen Roy Keane's men take 4 points from a possible nine, lifting the team near the top half of the table. An impressive 1-0 victory over Tottenham on the opening day was followed by a hard earned 2-2 draw against Birmingham City.

However a poor performance against Wigan Athletic last weekend saw the team lose its first match of the season by a margin of 3-0. The importance to collect points early on in the season will be not lost on Sunderland fans after the club finished its lat two seasons in the Premier League setting up a record low tally of points. Defender Paul McShane could miss the game against Liverpool after he suffered a head injury against Wigan.

Meanwhile Liverpool have got off to a good start to the season, winning its first match against Aston Villa and drawing the second against Chelsea. The Kops looked impressive against Chelsea and should have got all three points if it was not for the horrendous decision by referee Rob Styles to award a penalty to Chelsea which was converted by Frank Lampard.

Rafa Benitez will be looking to make it two wins out of three and exert pressure on Chelsea at the top of the table. With Manchester United and Arsenal not in their best of forms, Benitez will be looking to establish himself near the top of the table in order to enable him attempt a title charge in the final third of the season.
