The Black Cats have collected four points from their last two games and came very close to securing a second successive victory over Manchester City last weekend. Kenwyne Jones’ goal early in the first half looked to be enough for Sunderland as City struggled to put their chances away only for Adam Johnson to score a brilliant equalizer late in injury time.

The result sees Sunderland move seven points clear of the relegation zone and with just eight more games remaining in the season, manager Steve Bruce will now be looking to climb up the league table rather than worry about a relegation battle late in the season. Sunderland are missing a number of key players with Jones out of action with a hip injury while Lee Cattermole, Jordan Henderson and Andy Reid are yet to recover from their injuries and Lorik Cana is suspended.

Meanwhile Birmingham City will be looking to collect all three points and remain in contention for a seventh placed finish. The Blues have had an excellent season so far and have a great chance of finishing in their highest league position in more than five decades.
