After getting the better of Eintracht Frankfurt in both the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal, Bayern Munich will be looking to continue their winning run when they take on struggling Stuttgart at the Mercedes Benz Arena on Saturday afternoon. Stuttgart have so far had a season that can at best be described horrendous. They are fourth from bottom in the league, and are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference. They have lost all their October games, and trainer Markus Babbel could be shown the door if his side end the month on a losing note.

Stuttgart were beaten 1-0 by Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga last weekend. Things took a turn for the worse when lowly Greuther Furth knocked them out of the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. In their last five games, Stuttgart have only scored twice, something that the likes of Ciprian Marica and Pavel Pogrebanyak need to rectify immediately if they are to succeed against Bayern.

Bayern, as mentioned before, beat Frankfurt 2-1 in the league last week and followed it up with an emphatic 4-0 win in the German Cup. Miroslav Klose scored twice, with Thomas Muller and Luca Toni also writing their names on the score sheet.

This is also a homecoming of sorts for Bayern striker Mario Gomez, who left the Swabians this summer for a record fee after six seasons with the club. Louis Van Gaal’s rotating policy means that Gomez is not guaranteed a starting place, but should he get an opportunity, we can expect the Riedlingen born hitman to grab it with both hands. Influential winger Franck Ribery is still absent for Bayern, but Arjen Robben is fit.
