The Catalan giants are clear favorites to repeat AC Milan’s performance and become the first team to successfully defend their trophy in nearly two decades.  Coach Josep Guardiola will be keen to shrug off a recent dip in form by securing a comfortable victory over Stuttgart instead of leaving the job for the second leg.

Both the teams last met during the 2009-08 season with Barcelona winning both their group games against Stuttgart including a 2-0 win at the Mercedes-Benz Arena with Lionel Messi and Carlos Puyol hitting the back of the net. Dmitro Chygrynskiy and Yaya Toure have both recovered from their injuries and should be available for selection though Xavi and Seydou Keita continue to remain out of action.

Meanwhile Stuttgart coach Christian Gross will be hoping that his side can maintain their excellent recent form and remain in the hunt of causing an upset in the second leg. While the German club has struggled in the domestic league, they have won six of their last seven games and Gross will be aware that his side will have to be at their best in order to avoid a defeat against the defending champions on Tuesday.
