After an excellent start to the season, the Potters have lost their way, managing just one win from their last five games. Stoke suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Arsenal last weekend with Andrei Arshavin and Aaron Ramsey scoring for the Gunners. The defeat seems to have sparked an angry outburst between manager Tony Pulis and James Beattie with reports suggesting that the duo had a bust up in the dressing room soon after the final whistle.

Beattie has not trained with the first team for the last two days and is likely to sit out of the game against Wigan this weekend. Beattie will be joined by Amdy Faye on the sidelines with the midfielder out of action due to a back injury while Ryan Shawcross could return to action after recovering from a groin strain.

Meanwhile Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez will be hoping to see some consistency from his side when they take on Stoke this weekend. The Latics have put up some excellent displays this season but have been equally disappointing in other games.

Martinez accused his side of lacking in character after they threw away a first half lead to lose 3-2 to Birmingham City last weekend. Charles N'Zogbia put Wigan ahead in the first half but a brace from Sebastian Larsson and another goal from Christian Benitez saw Birmingham turn the game on its head in space of 11 minutes before Jordi Gomez managed to grab a consolation goal late in the game.
