Shearer's first game in charge ended in a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last weekend as defensive errors once again proved costly for the Magpies. Frank Lampard opened the scoring with a simple header in the 56th minute before Florent Malouda wrapped up the points nine minutes later.

Apart from the two defensive mistakes, Newcastle put up a good fight against their illustrious opponents and Shearer expressed confidence that his side can pull themselves out of the relegation zone but only if they manage to avoid any more defensive blunders.

 

 

Stoke on the other hand will be hoping to take advantage of the low morale in the Newcastle camp to extend their excellent recent form that has seen them collect three wins and a draw from their last five matches.

The Potters sit 13th in the league table, six points clear of the drop zone and manager Tony Pulis will be confident that his side will be easily able to avoid relegation come the end of the season.

 

 

Newcastle have a good record against Stoke, winning three of the last four meetings between the two sides but were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw early this season. Pulis will be delighted with a similar result this time around and take another step closer to safety.
