Last week Stoke City battled hard at Goodison Park, but still went down 3-1 to Everton. Goals from Jo, Joleon Lescott and Marouane Fellaini nullified a Ryan Shawcross header to consign yet another defeat on the Potters. 

They remain on the 18th spot on the premiership table with 29 points from 29 games. The points are identical to those collected by Portsmouth, but Stoke are in the danger zone due to a poor goal difference. Manager Tony Pulis is confident his side can stay in the top flight, but games are running out this season and that is what the upcoming game against Boro assumes massive significance. Top scorer Ricardo Fuller could start in this game as he has made three substitute appearances since recovering from a dislocated shoulder.

 

 

Meanwhile Middlesbrough continue to languish in the relegation zone with there appearing to be no way out for manager Gareth Southgate and his men. Boro had a narrow escape last week when they managed to equalize in the last minute to grab a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth.

Peter Crouch had given Pompey the lead and it looked doomed for the home side after Matthew Bates was sent off for a second offence. However Marlon King managed to scored in injury time to rescue a point.

 

 

For the visit to Stoke, Afonso Alves is fit and could start in this game, but Justin Hoyte is a doubtful starter having sustained a groin injury.
