Jurgen Klinsmann will be looking to get his team off to a perfect start in the Champions League when Bayern Munich welcome Steaua Bucharest in their opening group match on Wednesday. Watch live Champions League action on Live Sport Network.

 

 

Bayern return to Europe's biggest club competition after spending a season in the UEFA Cup last year. The German champions were knocked out of the semi finals in the UEFA Cup, losing to Zenit St Petersburg 5-1 on aggregate.

Though Bayern have had a quiet start to the new season, Klinsmann will be hoping that a convincing victory will kick start their season as they search for their fifth Champions League crown. With the club pitted with UEFA Cup champions Fiorentina and French club Lyon, Klinsmann will be aware that his side will have to win both their matches against Steaua Bucharest if they are to have any hopes of making it to the knockout stages.

 

 

Klinsmann has confirmed that Frank Ribery will not be able to take part in the match on Wednesday and though the French winger has expressed hope that he will recover in time to face Steaua, the Bayern manager has no intention of rushing one of his key players back into action.

Meanwhile Steaua Bucharest will be hoping to qualify for the knockout stages after ending three of their last five campaigns third in the group. Steaua qualified for the group stage by beating Galatasaray 3-2 on aggregate. Defender Dorin Goian will prove to be the key player for Steaua if they are to pull off an upset on Wednesday and beat Bayern in their opening group fixture.
