FC Twente's European adventure begins this week as they take on Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Watch Sporting CP v FC Twente live on Live Sport Network, the best place on the internet for Champions League streams.

Sporting Lisbon finished second in the Portuguese Liga last season as bitter rivals FC Porto successfully defended their title. The Lions will be hoping that this is the season they can end their domestic title drought. Unlike Porto and Benfica, Sporting have not made any major forays into the transfer market. Their only notable acquisitions are Matias Fernandez from Villareal and Felipe Caicedo on loan from Man City.

Sporting qualified from the group stages of the Champions League last season, finishing one point behind eventual champions Barcelona in Group E. In the round of 16 they faced Bayern Munich, and were thoroughly embarrassed. They were hammered 5-0 by Bayern in Lisbon, and were whipped 7-1 in Munich in the second leg.

FC Twente Enschede finished second in the Eredivisie last season, behind AZ Alkmaar. The Tukkers finished ahead of the big three of Dutch football- Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord Rotterdam. Twente also played in the Champions League last season, but were eliminated by Arsenal in the qualifying rounds. Trainer Steve McClaren will be hoping for some better luck this time around.

Twente have acquired Costa Rican forward Bryan Ruiz from Belgian club Gent for a club record €5m. South African international Bernard Parker, who impressed at the Confederations Cup, has also arrived at De Grolsch Veste. Talented Slovakian Miroslav Stoch has been loaned from Chelsea.
