Sporting were handed a lifeline in last week’s first leg at Goodison Park by Miguel Veloso’s late penalty. It gave the Portuguese side a priceless away goal, meaning that a 1-0 score line will do perfectly well for them in the return leg in Lisbon. Sporting drew their weekend league game against Olhanense.

Everton won 2-1 in the first leg thanks to goals from Steven Pienaar and Sylvain Distin. However Distin got himself sent off in the dying minutes of the first leg, thereby making the defender ineligible for the trip to Portugal. Diniyar Bilyaletdinov, Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell were on target for the Toffees when they shocked Man United at home on Saturday afternoon.
