Sporting managed to hold Atletico to a goalless stalemate at the Vicente Calderon last week despite finishing the game with only nine players. Leandro Grimi and Tonel, the two players who received their marching orders from the referee in the first leg, are suspended for the return leg at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Grimi picked up two yellows for fouling Jose Antonio Reyes on two separate occasions, while Tonel was sent off for a foul on Sergio Aguero.

Sporting beat Guimaraes 3-1 in the Portuguese Liga on Sunday. Grimi, star forward Liedson and Carlos Saleiro ended the match as a contest by helping Sporting take a 3-0 lead midway through the first half. Sporting’s lead was reduced when Valdomiro scored for Vitoria, but the Lisbon outfit held their nerve to pick up three important points.
