Atletico Madrid enjoyed a thumping 4-1 home win against Racing Santander last Sunday to consolidate their push for a Champions League spot. They are still eleven points behind current La Liga leaders Barcelona but are now unbeaten in their last six league games. Sporting Gijon come into this game having secured a great win away to Espanyol last Sunday, a result which meant they moved up to tenth in the league standings having accrued eighteen points. As mentioned above, their home record is nothing to be proud of so far this season, and this is a major worry for the management team. They do have a few injuries to contend with in their squad for the upcoming game and will be hard pressed to get anything from an impressive of late Atletico team.
