Spain finished their group engagements with a 100% record as they eased past South Africa 2-0 in their last Group A game. David Villa's third goal of the tournament, coupled with a Fernando Llorente strike, gave Spain their fifteenth consecutive win in all competitions- a world record.

La Furia Roja are widely expected to extend their winning run to seventeen games and lift their maiden Confederations Cup title. Vicente Del Bosque's men will fancy their chances against a US team which looked very ordinary in their first two games against Italy and Brazil.

Before the last round of games in Group B, only an optimistic person would have put his money on the United States qualifying for the semis. They had been outclassed by Italy and Brazil in their first two games, and had a goal difference of minus five. But a stunning 3-0 win over Egypt proved to be enough for the US to sneak through as Brazil crushed Italy 3-0 in the other game.

Charlie Davies, Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey were the scorers for the USA against Egypt. Davies, making his first start of the tournament, had a great game upfront against the Egyptians, and should be given another chance against Spain. Reserve keeper Brad Guzan managed to keep a clean sheet against Egypt, but first choice keeper Tim Howard is expected to regain his place between the sticks against Spain.
