Spain go into the match against Northern Ireland on Wednesday with the aim of finishing at the top of the group table after having successfully qualified to next year's Euro 2008 finals.

Spain emerged comfortable victors in their last match on Saturday, defeating Sweden 3-0 and avenging the 2-0 defeat they had suffered in the first leg of the fixture last year. Joan Capdevila opened the scoring for Spain in the 14th minute while Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos got one each as the Spaniards were never in danger of dropping more points against their Swedish counterparts on the weekend.

The win takes them above Sweden to the top of the table and four points clear of third placed Northern Ireland and coach Luis Aragones will be looking to end the campaign on a high with another comfortable victory over an opponent who had handed them a defeat in the first fixture.

Meanwhile Northern Ireland face an impossible task of grabbing the second qualification spot from Sweden. Nigel Worthington's need to beat Spain by a huge margin and hope that Latvia does the same against Sweden if they are to pip the Swedish to the remaining qualification spot.

Northern Ireland will be going into the final match on the back of a deserved 2-1 victory over Denmark on Saturday. The hosts came back a goal down in the second half to win the match after Warren Feeney and David Healy hit the back of the net late in the game.

Spain top Group F with 25 points from 11 games, while Northern Ireland are third with 20 points from 11 games.
