Spain have been the eye catchers so far in this tournament. With Netherlands they are one of the bookies early favorites and this does not change in the quarterfinals although they are up against a doughty Italy who managed to beat France to progress through.

Spain coach Luis Aragones has plenty of talent at his disposal. So much so that his second choice team emerged comfortable 1-2 winners against defending champions Greece to top Group D. Goals from Daniel Guiza and Ruben de la Red gave Spain a deserved win over Greece, whose only goal was scored by Charisteas.

Italy managed to enter the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win over France who were reduced to 10 men after Eric Abidal was sent off for a foul on Luca Toni. Andrea Pirlo converted the resulting penalty, while Daniele De Rossi added a deflected goal to send an aging French team home.

However Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has injury worries as defender Andrea Barzagli has been declared out of the rest of Euro 2008 with a knee injury. The Azzuri will also be without Pirlo and Gatusso who have picked up two yellow cards each.
