Real Madrid captain Raul was once again omitted by Spain coach Luis Aragones for the upcoming friendly against Italy on Wednesday.
With Spain's participation in the Euro 2008 yet to be confirmed by FIFA, Aragones looks to have decided on his core players for the tournament with the Spanish coach naming a largely unchanged squad that faced France last month. ![]() Getafe midfielder Ruben De La Red is in line for making his international debut after impressing since his move away from Real Madrid last summer, with Valencia's David Albelda missing out due to lack of regular matches. Raul's hopes of playing in the Euro 2008 championship look all but over with Spain's leading goal scorer not making it to the national team even once since September 2006.
Meanwhile Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero continues to remain sidelined with coach Roberto Donadoni omitting him from his 21-man squad that will play Spain on Wednesday. Juventus duo Gianluigi Buffon and Mauro Camoranesi make it to the squad after missing out against Portugal last month with injury.
Italy are scheduled to play their final friendly against Belgium on May 30 before the start of Euro 2008. With Donadoni's contract expiring in July, the Italian Football Federation said that his future as the coach of the national team will depend on Italy's performance in the competition.
