Poland will be hoping to take full advantage of their late equalizer against Northern Ireland and make a renewed push for the play-offs spot when they take on Slovenia in their World Cup qualifying match on Wednesday. Poland's World Cup dreams had looked all but over Ireland took a first half lead through Kyle Lafferty. However the Poles stuck to their task in the second half before a late equalizer from Mariusz Lewandowski meant that Leo Beenhakker's side remain within touching distance of moving to the second position in the group table.

Leo Beenhakker will be aware that his side will have to perform at their best for the remaining three matches and with Ireland facing a tough game against Slovakia, the Polish coach will be confident of moving back to the play-offs spot on the strength of their superior goal difference.

However Slovenia too have the same incentive with both the sides level on 11 points, just three points behind Ireland and both the teams have a game in hand. Slovenia put in a credible performance against England in their friendly game on Saturday.

The Slovenian defense made England work hard for their chances and were unlucky to concede a penalty that was converted by Frank Lampard in the first half. Jermain Defoe then doubled the lead in the 63rd minute. Zlatan Ljubijankic reduced the lead late in the game but there were no late equalizers, leaving England with a narrow victory.

Coach Matzaj Kek will be looking to ensure that his side will build on that performance against Poland and come away with a victory that will take them closer to making an appearance in the World Cup finals for only the second time in their history.
