Both the teams have already played a game each in Group F- Paraguay played their opening fixture against World champions Italy in Cape Town, while Slovakia were up against Oceania powerhouse New Zealand in Rustenburg. This is Slovakia’s first appearance at a World Cup, while Paraguay are making their fourth consecutive appearance at football’s biggest tournament. Slovakia suffered only two defeats in World Cup qualifying, both to neighbours Slovenia, who finished second in the group. They finished with seven wins in ten group games.

Paraguay’s record in second group games at the World Cup in recent times has been nothing to write home about. Their last win in such a game came in 1958, when they beat Scotland 3-2. Since then, La Albirroja have drawn two and lost two.
