Slovakia lead Group 3 with 15 points from six games, 7 more than the Czechs, who are languishing in fifth place. Slovakia have won their last four qualifiers, and their last defeat in qualifying came in September 2008.

The Czechs beat Belgium 3-1 in a friendly in August. Milan Baros scored a penalty and Roman Hubnik and David Rozenhal scored their first international goals as the Czechs eased to a 3-1 win in Teplice. Anderlecht midfielder Jaroslav Polak injured his knee on club duty with Anderlecht, and his spot has gone to West Ham’s Radoslav Kovac. Star midfielder Tomas Rosicky is expected to play despite not being fully match fit.
