Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington will be hoping for another strong showing by his side in the World Cup qualifiers as they kick off their qualifying campaign with a trip to Slovakia this Saturday. Watch Slovakia vs Northern Ireland Live online on Live Sport Network’s footy streams.

Northern Ireland finished just two wins away from qualifying to Euro 2008 early this year and though they finished a massive 15 points behind second placed Poland in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, Worthington will be hopeful of putting up a much stronger challenge this time around.

Northern Ireland's last appearance in the World Cup finals was back in 1986 and while fans are optimistic that their side will be able to build on their good showing from the Euro 2008 qualifiers, Worthington's side will have to deal with Czech Republic and Poland if they are to finish in the top two places of the group table.

Worthington has recalled George McCartney, Keith Gillespie, Aaron Hughes and Kyle Lafferty after the players missed the friendly against Scotland last month. Roy Carroll has been dropped from the squad after the Derby County keeper revealed that he was unwilling to travel for the games unless he was guaranteed a place in the starting line up.

Worthington faces a fitness worry over Manchester United defender Johnny Evans who has not trained with the team due to a hip injury. David Healy and Steven Davis also find a place in the squad with the manager delighted that the club futures of both the players have been sorted out in the summer transfer window.
