Singapore are using this game as part of their warm up for the Asian Cup qualifying double header against Thailand in November. The Lions currently lie second in Group E with three points from two games. They were hammered 6-1 by Iran in January this year, but bounced back to beat Jordan 2-1 two weeks later.

There is tremendous support for Liverpool in Singapore, and you can rest assured that quite a few of the locals will be rooting for the Reds instead of the Lions. Coach Radojko Avramovic has recalled Hariss Harun and Fazrul Nawaz to the national team. Captain Indra Sahdan is one of the three survivors from the friendly game against Liverpool in 2001, which Singapore lost 2-0.

 

 

Liverpool's pre-season results have been disappointing. The Reds have not managed to win in three games, and were held to a draw by Thailand in their last game. Ryan Babel gave them an early lead which was cancelled out by Sutee Suksomkit in the second half. Defender Martin Skrtel and striker Nabil El Zhar picked up injuries against Thailand, and will miss the game against Singapore.

New signing Glen Johnson and captain Steven Gerrard will also not be present at the National Stadium on Sunday. Liverpool's Spanish contingent, consisting of Jose Reina, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso, are expected to start. The same goes for Barcelona target Javier Mascherano and Israeli forward Yossi Benayoun.
