Sigma were hammered 4-0 by the Toffees in the first leg at Goodison Park. Things could probably have turned out different for the Czech outfit had referee Cortez Batista pointed to the spot in the first half when Jakub Petr had been brought down by Everton keeper Tim Howard.

Sigma were beaten 2-1 by Pribram in their weekend Gambrinus Liga game. Paul Dreksa gave Sigma the lead shortly after half time, but Pribram emerged winners thanks to goals from Lukas Plesko and Zdenek Mejkal. The Hanaci face Sparta Prague in the league after the Everton game.

Jack Rodwell and Louis Saha scored two goals apiece against Sigma as Everton erased the memories of their opening day 6-1 defeat to Arsenal. Two goals came before the break, and two came after the break as David Moyes’ team enjoyed a perfect European night. In the process, Rodwell also became Everton’s youngest ever scorer in Europe.

While they did taste success against Sigma, Everton were beaten by promoted Burnley on Sunday. Wade Elliott scored the only goal of the game to leave Everton rooted to the bottom of the table with no points to show for their efforts after two fixtures. David Moyes needs to bring in reinforcements soon if he is to prevent the Toffees from having as bad a start as Spurs had last season.
